The Workshop Mainly focused on the Introduction Of Internet of Things (IoT) & its connection of objects to each other with Raspberry Pi as the Main Part. The applications of IoT technologies were discussed which are multiple, because it is adjustable to almost any technology and is capable of providing relevant information about its own operation, about the performance of an activity and even about the environmental conditions that we need to monitor and control at a distance. Some Main practical applications of IoT Along with Machine Learning Algorithms were discussed. An application oriented image processing project was explained & has been executed as a Hands-On Session!

GUEST LECTURE ON CYBER SECURITY – AWARENESS

(An Event on National Computer Security Day)

Then the Speaker for the day Mr. Veerendra GG, Sr. Technical Manager, SecPod Technologies Pvt. Ltd.,  started the session by addressing the gathering and then created awareness on Cyber Security with suitable real life examples which are essentially to be known by everyone in today’s digital and internet world. He projected a clear understanding of the importance of top vulnerabilities, social engineering attacks, malware’s and their prevention’s. He inspired the audience by lively interacting on the malware’s and their types. He discussed about the prevention like cyber security education, OS & application patching, security software, using strong and complex passwords, verifying URL address twice etc. He emphasized on rogue application on OS and mobile. He insisted to change password frequently and not to keep date of birth and pet names as password.

He mentioned Remote Code Execution and SQL injection as some of the Top Vulnerabilities one should aware of. In Remote Code Execution an attacker is able to run code of their choosing with system level privileges on a server that possesses the appropriate weakness. SQL injection is used to attack data-driven applications, in which malicious SQL statements are inserted into an entry field for execution. He listed the social engineering attacks as Phishing, Phone Scams, Tailgating, Shoulder Surfing and Scareware. Also explained on another cyber threat called Malware and named a few of them. We are most likely to encounter the following malware types in our daily life and they are Exploit kits, Ransomware, APTs, Rootkit, Trojans, Spywares, Virus, and Worms

He suggested some of the preventive mechanisms to make our life safe in the cyber world. Having the practice of backing up critical files regularly, Knowledge of identifying unknown Emails, links, downloads etc., using multi factor authentication, Learning and understanding Cyber Security are the mechanisms which when followed will make our life smooth, facing any kind of challenges and threats from hackers.

Guest Lecture on Cloud Technology and its opportunities

The presenter of the day Mr. RAJA VISVANATHAN, Scientist-C (CS), INFLIBNET Centre, An IUC of University Grants Commission, Gandhinagar, Gujarat started the session with a beautiful story to make the students understand which step they have reached as on date in their lifetime. Next the speaker moved on to explain the benefits of Cloud Computing like disaster recovery, increased collaboration, environment friendly, flexibility etc., which actually created interest on the remaining part of the session. As the data grows exponentially in today’s digital world, the resource person insisted on the need for increase in servers to meet the requirements of specific purposes like proxy server, web server, application server, chat server etc. The presenter impressed the students by giving the best definition for the term Cloud Computing – Cloud Computing is on ON-DEMAND, SELF SERVICE internet infrastructure that enables the user to access computing resources ANYTIME from ANYWHERE. 

As everyone expects to know the clear difference between private cloud, IAAS, PAAS and SAAS, the boundaries limited to the user and provider at various layers are briefed in the simplest way for anyone can understand. He exposed the various cloud proividers available online for the benefit of student’s community. Especially he mentioned on AWS Educate to access AWS Technology, Cloud Courses, Training and Collaboration Tools by Students and Educators. He also made a simple demo on how to create a virtual machine on cloud using Microsoft Azure. All together, the session was an eye opener for the students and faculty to realize the importance of switching over to cloud technology.

GUEST LECTURE ON FUTURE READINESS FOR ENGINEERING GRADUATES

This Guest Lecture was conducted on 15th September 2020. The Guest speaker Mr. Tamilselvan Mahalingam, Founder and CEO of FutureCaptains, started the session by asking basic general questions on self understanding of each and every student which made the session quite interesting. He began the session with a simple arithmetic of how many hours a student using it and how many hours are left unused. He narrated the proficiency of cricketer M.S. DHONI in playing helicopter shots and how much time he devoted for practicing that particular shot.

Then he guided the students on how to choose and analyse their career in their field of interest by knowing the category to which they belongs like the creator, builder, organizer, persuader, problem solver etc. He emphasized that a student should be specific on what they want to become. He also provided necessary tips on how a student should grow ones talent in the specific domain of passion and thought process and also added on how to enrich the knowledge of focus in reaching the end goal. He categorized the skills in six different ways like physical, informational, interpersonal, creative, managerial and administrative.

He brought better understanding to the students with an analogy of explaining the components of bike comparing to one’s self development.  And moreover he keeps on interacting with the students frequently by keeping the students engaged for the entire session.

This webinar was conducted on 6th May 2020. The Guest speaker Mr.Bastin Robin, Chief Data Scientist, CleverInsight, gave a deep insight on Data science. He explained clearly about the applications of Data Science in Agriculture, Public Health Care Systems, and Education sector. According to him, Data Science is not only about Machine Learning & Deep Learning. Data is an asset. AI is a supporter & not a decision maker.

Department of CSE & IT organized a guest lecture on Future of computing on 13th August 2019. Guest Speaker is Mr. Kishore Rajendran, Chief Technology Officer(London), Microsoft UK. The Chief Guest addressed the gathering about the cloud services and gave a deep insight on Microsoft Azure, Office 365, AI, ML and other statistical Algorithms. He asked the students to cultivate the habit of learning by themselves and adapt to the recent technologies and trends with the help of online tutorials and videos.

Dr. S.N.Sivanadam, emeritus Professor of various leading institutions has inaugurated this FDP and also delivered the keynote address

Dr.K.Sangavai from PSG College Of Technology also delivered a keynote address on Graph Theory with a focus on research opportunities.

Prof. D.Lakshmi and faculty members of CSE/IT Departments handled the rest of the sessions apart from organizing this FDP.
